During 200 years the Corinthians sold their pottery everywhere the Greek... (more)

Flowers Are the Latest Snack

Forget tapas and polish pancakes, because flowers are the most contemporary snack. So if you want to transform yourself into a Persian princess, just start frying some rose fritters because flower-power is back. The recipe is spectacularly simple, just make the batter the night before by mixing : 1 egg, 2 desert spoons of sugar, a pinch of cinnamon, a glass of rose syrup, and 3 desert spoons of flour. If the mixture is too thick, just add a little milk. The flowers have to be picked fresh that day, and must have a strong perfume and be open – but not too open.
The variety of rose, whether... (more)

Kilns and Kiln Accessories

Kilns and Kiln Accessories

The kiln is a very important structure when working with ceramics. Kilns are ovens where clay, pottery, and porcelain pieces are "fired," which means burned, dried, and hardened. Very high temperatures are reached inside of a kiln, which is how the process works.

Kilns can be operated by electricity, natural gas, wood, coal, fuel, oil, or propane. The air, temperature, and humidity in kilns are strictly controlled. Kilns come in various sizes and maximum temperatures-usually between 1500 and 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. The type of Kiln you get will depend on what... (more)

Nice Mugs

This mug, part of a toilet set, was made by Trenton factory Ott & Brewer. The mug is 3 3/4 inches high.

The decoration consists of an enamel painted maroon ground and gold bands at rim and base with custom name inside a gold-accented cartouche. The factory probably would have described the decoration as grounds & gold with name. The name is L. M. Line (or possibly Hine, although the initial letter does not look like a capital H). The name was not found in 1859, 1881, and 1882 Trenton city directories. Neither a matching pattern nor these names are present in the Ott & Brewer... (more)

SEG / Paul Revere Pottery pitcher with multi-color glaze
It’s a common theory among parents of teenagers – keep them busy, and they may not have time to get into any trouble! But just what activity, pray tell, would do the trick? After all, mowing the lawn and washing the dishes only go so far. How about something more creative and constructive, something along the lines of producing a line of fine commercial art...
